So, I’ve been depressed all week by the fact that we didn’t make it down to New Orleans this year for our annual pilgrimage to Jazz Fest, going on last week and this week. It’s the first time in 3 years we skipped it and we’ve been searching for something to fill the void, especially with the crappy weather we’ve been having. Well, last Saturday, during that amazingly perfect afternoon we biked all over the city and ended up in Market Square and decided to try NOLA on the Square. The outdoor seating looked so inviting, we just had to try it. We’re so glad we did.
It was the perfect respite we needed from both our bike ride and being stuck up North during Jazz Fest. The New Orleans themed Jazz Brasserie serves up their own versions of classic N’awlins food from po’boys (I got the shrimp…fried in an Abita beer batter) to jambalaya, red beans & rice and crawfish dishes. Oh, and the oysters…next time we’re getting at least two orders. They also offer a bunch of different styles of Abita beer, one of our favorite New Orleans beers! The Jockamo IPA is my fave. Also tempting, is their list of New Orleans cocktails…and yes, they have Hurricanes too.
The waitress, who’s name I forgot but was outstanding…you know who you are, said they have live music every Friday and Saturday night. I think it may be a regular weekend evening bike ride for us over to Market Square this summer. If you’re a New Orleans fan, or just a food lover…definitely check out NOLA on the Square.
Check out the menu and music schedule right here.
And if you want to catch some live music from Jazz Fest, check WWOZ’s live stream all weekend at http://www.wwoz.org/. I’ve got it on right now. Miss ya New Orleans. 😦
